A big day for Vini. CBT yesterday and a Step Up day on to the 600 today. Took to the big bike with ease and a big build in his confidence. But a deflated finish as we got a puncture at the end of the day! A great day for him otherwise.

Gill goes Solo! Gill renewed her CBT with us recently and stepped up to the 600 today to start her Direct Access Course. Going ‘Solo’ as Gill is an experienced racer on a motorcycle & sidecar outfit! She was telling us tales of the track and of how she managed to shake off her sidecar passenger! I hope she doesn’t manage to shake off Instructor Jeff today!

Something for the weekend Sir? New Rubber? Practice Safe Riding. Keep your rubber in good condition! Here is our Honda 600 having new tyres fitted by Mark in Newport. He also offers a mobile service. The number’s in the photo. Your tyres are your only contact with the road – and if you look after your tyres…. They’ll remain your only contact with the road!! Remember that new tyres need to be used with great care until they are scrubbed in – for up to around the first 100 miles.

Back from The Golden Arches! Rhys & Vini at the end of their CBT today. The on road ride takes a break at The Golden Arches at Pontprennau for a debrief and a breather (for the Instructor….) before returning to the school. Well done to them both. Vini continues to a step up day tomorrow training on the 600.

Did Well in The Wells. Here is Adam & Simon who both passed their Mod 2 bike tests in Llandrindod Wells yesterday. Instructor Jeff guided them on the 70 mile run through Mid Wales to the test centre, and he brought them home again afterwards, smiling all the way. Well done to them.

Mock Mod 1 Charity Day. We joined together today with Welshbiker’s Forum members & Bridgend Motorcycle Training at their Bridgend Training site for a fun day putting members through a Mock Module 1 test. The picture shows the Jury that you had to face in “The Seat of Shame” if you messed it up. Well done to Tom who was the only one who managed to pass!! But we raised £110 for charity which will be split half & half between our chosen charity, NSPCC & Blood Bikes. Thanks to all those that took part and supported the day, travelling from as far afield as Swindon to take part.

Gill & Josh. Josh & Gill went up the hill…. To complete their CBT today. Well done to them both as they quickly took to the geared bikes and completed the road ride with ease. (And put up with Dixie for the whole day)!

Unlicensed Driving Instructors A news item today warned of an upsurge in unlicensed & fraudulent Car Driving Instructors. Each driving school car must have a licence displayed in the windscreen. So don’t get in if its not there. But that is not the case for Motorcycle Instructors. So how do you know who you are training with. This picture shows a DSA issued Motorcycle Certificate and it must be carried at all times that instruction is being given, and can be inspected by the students at any time. So what information does it contain. A photo of the holder (he’s a good looking bloke!) and the expiry date. It gives the Approved Training Body that the instructor is licenced with. There is a serial number at the top. The D at the start of the serial number means that the instructor is qualified to teach under the Direct Access Scheme. The C at the end means that he has been assessed at the DSA Assessment centre at Cardington. This licence should be Blue in colour. There are also licenced instructors who hold a similar, but Yellow certificate. This means that they are licenced to instruct CBT and have yet to be assessed for the later categories of bike training. All our Instructors hold valid certificates. If you are not sure then ask to see it. Our instructors are governed by strict guidelines and subject to periodic assessment by the DSA. I hope this helps.
