Fred Hill Memorial Ride Out. What a great turn out for the Fred Hill Memorial Run today. A freezing start to the day couldn’t chill the spirits of the crowd of chums who gathered at the Caerphilly Mountain Snack Bar early this morning. After a route briefing, Gareth from Cardiff MAG gave a short history of who Fed Hill was and the importance of why his memory should be kept alive, and then we set off for Abergavenny. A good day with great company. Join us on the next Ride Out.

A Frosty CBT. After having a CBT snowed off last weekend I was worrying a bit about the sub zero weather forecast for Saturday. But here we see Chris & Michal taking the cold, frosty start in their stride as they perfect their slow control technique on the Figure 8 Exercise. Both complete novices proving themselves to be confident and capable riders. Looking forward to the next stage in the training…… looking forward to the Summer!!!! Well done to you both.

The next Ride Out will be on Sunday the 12th of February. This will be the Fred Hill Memorial Run which is being organised by the Cardiff Branch of The Motorcycle Action Group – MAG.Fred Hill was a keen biker and a personal activist against the introduction of the law which required the compulsory wearing of a motorcycle helmet. He was booked too many times to count and was imprisoned several times as he refused to pay any of his fines. He died of heart failure in London’s Pentonville Prison in 1984 whilst serving one of these prison sentences. A full background of Fred Hill can be found at http://wadmag.mag-uk.org/fred_hill.htm but don’t click on it yet!!!! The ride out will give me a ‘day off’ as it is being lead by MAG organisers, and has two meeting points. Meeting at 10am at the Ninian Park Public House and then with a stop at Caerphilly Mountain Snack Bar, before heading off to Abergavenny. I will be joining it at The Home of the Mountain Monster at the Snack Bar and I am looking forward to being able to follow for a change. So why not come along and commemorate this remarkable character, who made a stand for retaining the freedom of choice. Okay…. now you can click on that link to see ‘Who Was Fred Hill’……. And after reading that, join us on the ride out…….. Come on…… you know you want to……….

Snow CBT. Mother & Daughter, Sam and Tasha from Bristol on their CBT today. It was a cold, but good start for them but then the snow started! We got as far as changing up and down the gears and about to move on to the slow control exercises when the snow got the better of us. Being unsafe to carry on we had to postpone the remainder. Well done to the girls who kept going as long as they could, with high spirits and great enthusiasm. Such a great start will stand them in good stead for the second session……. but now its time for another Hot Chocolate.
