DETAILS OF THE COURSE

Commencing Sunday the 7th May (Classroom Based Day). Or the 6th if you take the extra optional free day.

Departing for Scotland the next day Monday 8th. Returning home Friday 12th.

Is this the closest thing to a Police Training Course currently available? We think so.

1st Class Rider Training-Cardiff are offering a unique motorcycle training experience. We believe that currently there is nothing like this on offer anywhere else. This is not simply a Tour, this is an intensive motorcycle training experience.

Offering you the opportunity to gain the qualifications for the Advanced Tests for RoSPA and the Enhanced Rider Scheme. Also now including the test for the IAM Roadsmart (Institute of Advanced Motorists).

We believe this is the closest thing you will get to a Police Advanced Course and is aimed at fully qualified riders.

Running our previous courses we retained our 100% pass rate for the Advanced Tests and Candidates were also successful in gaining a ‘pass’ certificate for The Enhanced Rider Scheme.

We are offering a Six Day course which includes Bed & Breakfast Hotel Accommodation on the four nights away, and includes a Two Course Carvery or Buffet Evening Meal on each night.

This is 5 days on road & the 1 Classroom based day prior to departure. (6 days on road with the optional riding day at the start of the course).

This course will take you across three Countries and will include riding in Wales, England and Scotland. You could expect to cover approximately 2000 miles on this intense motorcycling experience.

Using only the highest qualified Instructors our trainers are either Police Class 1 Riders, RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Advanced Tutors, RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Instruction Diploma Holders. RoSPA or IAM Advanced Motorcycle Test Examiners, or members of the Register of Post Test Motorcycle Trainers. (Some of them former or still serving Traffic Cops who hold the coveted Police Class 1 Motorcycle Grade). You will be in good and very experienced hands.

You will be in radio contact with your instructor and will be riding in a ratio of 2:1 with your instructor. (Although 3:1, may be required at certain times but even 1:1 may be possible).

The training will all be based on the Motorcycle Roadcraft, The Police Rider’s Handbook, and this is essential pre-course reading. (ISBN 978-0-11708188-8 or for the latest up dated edition, ISBN 978-0-11708379-0). Also the IAM Handbook, ‘Be a Better Rider’.

You will be taken on some of the most challenging and breathtaking roads that the UK has to offer.

A typical course structure is as follows. (but may be subject to change as we continue to find fantastic roads to ride!!!)

The day prior to departing for Scotland we will conduct a group theory, classroom based day to cover the essential theory behind expert control of the bike on the road. Light refreshments will be provided during this classroom session. You will get to meet the other members on the course and also get to meet with your instructors. This is an essential part of the course as we believe that you need to know the theory behind what we will be doing out on the road.

Day 1 on Road. On departure day we will meet as a group in South Wales and depart in our separate groups, through the Heart of Wales before joining the motorway near Chester for a relatively short run before heading cross country through the picturesque Lake District and into Northern England, crossing the border at the infamous Gretna Green before settling for the night at our chosen 4 Star Spa Hotel in the Scottish Town of Paisley, where a quality evening meal and a comfy bed awaits. (We have sampled the Carvery Restaurant and can highly recommend it).

On this course we have chosen to use one centrally based Headquarters Hotel for the four nights. This will remove the need to pack every day and any wet kit from the day before can be left and aired or dried throughout the day. You will also get to use the Spa and Health Club Facilities. Under cover parking for the bikes is possible, at no charge.

We will be able to train on some of the most spectacular & challenging roads that the UK has to offer.

Day 2, 3 & 4 on Road, we will train across the Highlands of Scotland, & West Coast, passing Lochs and spectacular mountains along the way, taking the road through the magnificent Glen Coe, before returning to our hotel for our evening meal, where you will be free to use the pool and health club facilities.

Weather and time permitting we will be able to take some spectacular roads, such as, Glencoe, and if we time it right, you might be able to view the Harry Potter Train as it steams over the Glenfinnan Viaduct. We will also take a run down the very technical and twisty A702 to St John’s Town of Dalry. This road will test your cornering skills!

Taking a Fish & Chip lunch (or Battered Haggis!) at the harbour-side at Oban is a particularly welcome break in the riding day.

Eilean Doonan Castle

Day 5 on Road will see us head South for home. On our previous courses, Candidates have opted for the tests to be taken on last but one day, (the Thursday – Day 4) leaving the last night for a ‘pressure free’ course dinner and leaving the final day for a relaxed and more leisurely day to finish the course. However, any tests that are outstanding and not taken on the normal ‘test day’ will be included on the morning of the final day as we head South. Please note that you are not compelled to take your tests on the course, but for those who choose to do so,we have a 100% pass rate. So, based on Course Candidate preferences, we have opted for the Thursday to be ‘test’ day, leaving the Friday as a ‘travel home’ day. We usually organise a group ride, South to Gretna Green for a break, before dispersing separately to make your way home.

Please note, there is no requirement to return to South Wales at the end of the Course.

This is an intense experience, and on some days high mileage will be covered but you will experience the kind of riding that Traffic Officers have to undergo before being let loose on patrol. With a Standard Police Course being of 4 weeks duration we aim to give you a taste of that training rolled down into 6 days. This is training to the highest level.

The inclusive cost of this training and single room accommodation and meals as described above is just £1620.

This course fee does not include your own personal incidentals and daytime refreshments or petrol which will be at your own expense.

But this will include your test fee and membership to RoSPA, and the IAM for those wishing to take the tests, and your assessment for The Enhanced Rider Scheme. You will also get full use of the Spa & Health Club facilities at our chosen 4 Star Spa Hotel.

A RoSPA Grade or an IAM Pass are also recognised by some insurance companies for you to qualify for a discount on your premium.

We currently have a 100% pass rate for candidates taking the RoSPA Advanced Tests. So this is an opportunity to take your riding to the next level. Thinking you’re good is one thing, but knowing you’re good is even better!

Once again we expect demand for this course to be high so get your name on the list as soon as you can. A deposit of £200 will be payable at the time of booking, as this will be used to secure your accommodation for the course. Please note that this deposit is non-returnable – (unless there are exceptional circumstances).

When this was first published, within half an hour we had taken bookings for this course, so don’t miss out.

The Successful Candidates & Instructors May 2015

The Successful Candidates & Instructors from a previous Course.

Here’s what our students thought about it.

You have a unique and powerful product. Long may it flourish” Roger.

“Best Course ever”. Siggi.

“I think you should quadruple the cost of this course. I already know that what you taught me has saved my life”. Chris.

“I cannot recommend this enough, anyone thinking about it, you won’t regret it! Awesome roads and Instructors who know what they are doing, make you feel safe and support you all the way through the many challenges” Dave.

“Fabulous trip, great roads. Thanks for your hard work and thanks to an incredibly dedicated team of tutors. Learned loads..” Sarah.

It was fantastic to ride great roads with a bunch of enthusiastic bikers and as the days went on I saw my riding improve greatly. It was thanks to your course that I finally truly understand the Limit point. I always knew what it meant and always thought I was reading it, but it was only on that trip that it finally clicked into place and I could actually see it happening in front me. I found it very helpful to be miked up with my instructor and get real time feedback on my riding and to hear how he was analysing his ride. I have to say that I spent most of those 5 days grinning like a loon. It was fantastic to be riding at an “enthusiastic” pace, and thanks to the team’s feedback at no point did I feel unsafe or out of my depth.

I just want to add for the benefit of anyone reading this, that although we had great fun and laughs over the 5 days, when the time came for the Rospa test, everything changed to complete professionalism. As it turned out, I messed things up on the day and was scored accordingly. No favours are given…no matter how you ride during the week, you are scored according to how your ride on your test. To me, this shows complete integrity of the course and test.” Sav.

“Thanks Andy. I believe this course has saved my life! Prior to doing the course I had two crashes but I’m convinced that had I done this course earlier, I wouldn’t have had either of them. You made me realise where I may have been going wrong, and you were able to put it right. Thanks to you and your team.” Mark.

OLD COURSE INFO BELOW. What you want is up above!!

Running our previous Courses we retained our 100% pass rate for the RoSPA & IAM Roadsmart Tests and Candidates were also successful in gaining a ‘pass’ certificate for The Enhanced Rider Scheme.

* * * * * * *

We also run a shorter course locally but we have no plans to fix a date for the short course at the moment. Details of the short course are below but our resources are being concentrated on the Exclusive 3 Countries Course outlined above.

1st Class Rider Training offer the opportunity to undergo a 4 day advanced motorcycle course.

(This is a Non Residential Course).

The course is 4 days in total but is spread over a period of weeks to suit you. It consists of a period of theory presentations, self study, and practical on road training sessions and practical examinations.

At the end of the course successful candidates will be given the chance to undergo the Advanced RoSPA Motorcycle Test. The RoSPA test qualification is deemed to be the highest award available to the general public and we believe that this course offers training which is the closest possible to a Police Training Course.

(The RoSPA qualification can also be converted to an NVQ level iii.)

The courses are run at intervals throughout the year and have been enjoyed by many.

The practical on road sessions although based in Cardiff take place throughout Wales and you can expect to visit South and Mid Wales as far as Aberystwyth (via the most challenging and scenic routes we can find) covering around 150-200 miles.

Contact with riders is maintained via bike to bike radio links and the road sessions include periods of instruction as well as demonstration rides by the instructors. We operate a strict limit of 2 riders to one instructor and all our instructors are RoSPA Advanced Test Examiners.

All the Instructors delivering this course are Police Class 1 Riders and Examiners for the RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Test. Andy Smith also holds the RoSPA Diploma in Motorcycle Instruction.

The cost of the four day course is just £720 (plus the fee for the RoSPA Test fee for those candidates wishing to take the test.)

The RoSPA qualification is widely recognised by insurance companies who will offer a discount to successful test candidates. Your RoSPA fee includes your membership to RoSPA who will arrange a re-test every three years so you have the opportunity to keep your riding skills up-dated at regular intervals.

This is training to the highest level.
