Another pre lockdown biking memory. As restrictions are lifted, take extra care when you take your ‘first’ ride. Remember your skills may have faded, as have those of the other road users you may encounter. Be especially aware that pedestrians who may have been used to empty streets, suddenly have a surge in traffic to contend with. Also you might be meeting other ‘bikers’ who also may be getting back into it. Enjoy your ride, but remember, your family want you home.

A difference of opinion….. The Welsh First Minister has said that there has never been any restrictions on driving instructors, teaching people to drive! But the DVSA (the overriding administrative authority have suspended all training and testing). Mark Drakeford said today that Driving Schools were never on the restricted business list, so long as extra measures are put in place as we can’t keep the 2 metre rule. He mentions car instructors having to take the controls, steering wheel, or gear stick etc during a lesson. It could be the same on a cbt, in the yard assisting with operation of the clutch or basic balance etc. We have such a stringent duty of care for our students, we can’t take any chances or cut any corners. However it is the DVSA who will have the final say, before we can get going again, and we will then have to consider how we are going to put in place the extra safety provions required. It’s getting closer. Safety is paramount. It hasn’t gone away!
